Every other Sunday, the Purchase Stood hosts a student-run flea market, also known as the Stood Flea. From 4-8pm, anyone is welcome to stop by with their items, grab a table, and start selling! Students have the ability to re-home pieces of clothing, sell their own prints, graphics and personal artworks, and much more. It's also a great way to buy some affordable new clothes, room decor, and more without having to run off campus. Here's a look at what to expect ahead of this weekend's Flea.
Beck Levy (senior) a gender studies major, has been doing photography for several years, and sells some of his prints at the Stood Flea. He had originally applied as a photography major, but then decided to keep photography out of his academics. “I don’t like it when other people tell me what to do with my art. It’s very personal for me.”
Eryn Cervino (junior,) cinema studies, attends the Stood Flea every time it runs, selling crochet hats, bandanas and bags, and more. Cervino applauds all the talented students she has seen sell their work. “Lots of jewelry makers here," she says. "I buy so much of their stuff.”
Tyler Miritello, a sophomore studying anthropology, proudly wears a tank top with two roaches on it, purchased from a friend of his that also sells their art and clothing at the Stood Flea. “I thought it looked cool, and I think it’s a really good printing job.”
A tarot reader for five years, Kyndal Alderman, who is a sophomore majoring in political science, attends the Stood Flea to read out tarot interpretations to whoever would like.
“What originally made me want to start doing this here is my bad social anxiety. It kind of forces me to talk to people,” Alderman shares. “I figured I might as well do it and maybe make some money while I do it.”
A playwriting/screenwriting senior, Emma Hostetter, sells thrifted pieces from their wardrobe to further purpose and recycle what they don't use anymore. When asked about favorite sellers at the Stood Flea, Hostetter notes, “There's this one artist on campus that does a mixture of patterned clothes and also rings and jewelry. They’re so cool. They always have such crazy stuff.”
