Baked with Love: Valentine’s Day Fundraising Fun

Love and the smell of freshly baked goods filled the air in Campus Center North (CCN) as many on-campus groups held bake sales as Valentine’s Day approached.

Afrofusion Dance Club, Cheer Club and Acting Company 50 all gathered in CCN during the campus free hours in order to grab the attention of students while they’re all on break from classes on Feb. 12.

“We set up here every Wednesday,” said Cheer Club Captain Rianna Sugiyama-Ross. “But as we get closer to the holidays we like to make them themed like the one we did today.”

The Cheer Club offered a variety of cookies and cupcakes decorated with red and pink icing. Meanwhile, Acting Company 50’s booth featured homemade brownies and cinnamon rolls. Afrofusion’s table hosted a “Thrift and Treats” sale, where they sold members’ old clothes to fundraise for an upcoming ball they are hosting.

“We thought while people are trying to get food during their lunch breaks they could then come and get a little dessert as a treat from us and then do a little bit of shopping,” said Afrofusion’s President Nathalie Marte.

By the end of campus free hours, students had enjoyed treats and supported each of the clubs, and all the groups packed up at 3 p.m. as classes resumed. The groups left having a successful fundraiser, with Afrofusion reaching double their goal.

"We’re really happy with how things went,” said Afrofusion Secretary Gianette Dominguez. “We were able to raise some money and spread some Valentine’s Day love.”
