Earlier this month, in the basement of Campus Center North, Purchase TV (PTV) reopened the floodgates for a live stream of artists Nora Baier and Fritzleschats, recording live for the first time in three years. The Beat caught up with WPSR's director David Einhorn, who put on the event with PTV, and the performers for an interview about this historic Purchase moment. Check it out!

Nora, as the first performer for PTV in three years, how does it feel to make Purchase history?

Nora: It was fun! I liked that intimate setting, people sitting on the floor, I love it. This was my first time live-streaming anything with other students, so it felt great to have that under my belt. I've live-streamed myself before, but the atmosphere really changes when you have these huge cameras and lights on you; it feels so much more professional. I was so happy when David reached out to offer me a spot on this. I'm always glad to make Purchase history!

David, you must be really proud of you and your team! Considering this is only your second semester running the station, how are you finding it?

David: It's a lot of fun; there's so much going on, and people are always up for collaborating, which is rewarding. As an environmental science major, it's refreshing to come back to my passion for music and watch our plans see the light. Especially when things have been put on hold due to Covid-19, it feels like Purchase has really started to open up again.

How would you describe the Purchase music scene?

David: Wow, impossible question! Miscellaneous is the only way I'd put it. There's a lot of indie rock, I think people are very reflective on what's 'cool' on the internet. Hyper-pop is definitely becoming a scene here. I think the internet has something to do with that. But there's variety, for sure. I'd recommend Dervygaar, Mallard Westcott, Kevin Wulf, Brigid Hart, and Jasper Zeray, but there's so many more I could talk about. People should get out and see some gigs!

Will there be more live streams for people to check out?

David: Of course! We're planning to livestream on the first Friday of every month since this one has gone so well. But I can't reveal any secrets, there's definitely more to come.

Fritzleschats! How did it feel to perform?

Andy (singer): It was our first show in a while, but it felt very welcoming. It's so nice to see your friends so close to the stage, it makes playing easier when you can see friendly faces. Mishaps happen but it's live, so you really capture the energy.

Connor Lynch (bassist): I had so much fun. All my friends were here, and it reminded me of how we started out. We created the band because we loved hanging out in the [Purchase] music scene, so it was a full circle moment performing to our friends.

And there you have it! Check out Purchase TV's YouTube channel to watch a playback of the live stream, and stay tuned for their next one on November 1st! Don't miss it!
