If it’s the weekend, rain is on the way. Most of the tristate can expect a soggy start to their weekend. Saturday morning and afternoon can have a mix of light showers and heavy downpours. However, Sunday will mark the first of several days featuring brighter skies, a gusty breeze, and unseasonably cooler temperatures.

SATURDAY

OCTOBER 7, 2023

WHAT TO EXPECT: WET & WINDY| HIGH: 67°F/ LOW: 50°F

Slick roads, cloudy skies, and breezy conditions. Throughout the daylight hours on Saturday, pulses of rain will impact the area, bringing more rain to locations that saw 3-6+” of rain last weekend. Expect widespread rainfall amounts of 1.5-2.5", with isolated amounts of 3-5" of rain possible. The exact location of the heaviest downpours is still being worked out. However, it looks like rain should exit the area before the day on Sunday, but don’t rule out a pop-up shower during the evening hours. In addition to rain, we should expect gusty winds as the string cold front blitzes through the area, with gusts up to 25 mph.

Further, the cold front won't just bring occasionally heavy rain and gusty winds, as the front exits the area, unseasonably cold air will settle into the area in its wake.

This weather will most definitely hamper any outdoor events and activities that may be planned. So, it may be best to find alternative venues or plans that can accommodate these events. If not, prepare for delays and cancellations.

Ensure to have an umbrella and rain boots during the day on Saturday as rain pours throughout the tristate area, once again.

SUNDAY

OCTOBER 8, 2023

WHAT TO EXPECT: BRIGHT AND BLUSTERY| HIGH: 62°F/ LOW: 48°F

Rain leaves the area leaving behind breezy conditions. However, unlike Saturday, sunshine will blanket the Purchase Campus, yielding drier conditions. However, temperatures will be unseasonably cool for this time of year. High temperatures will be 10-20 degrees below average over parts of the Northeast, as temperatures struggle to reach 60 degrees across the area.

It may be best to bring a jacket and pack up the summer attire as middle of fall like temperatures settle into the region.

MONDAY

OCTOBER 9, 2023

WHAT TO EXPECT: BRISK AND BLUSTERY| HIGH: 60°F/ LOW: 50°F

Monday will be another dry day with a mix of sun & clouds. However, winds will remain gusty at times with gusts up to 20 mph. Similar to Sunday, temperatures will remain chilly for this time of year, especially on the heels of summer-like temperatures from last week.

Even though it will be cooler outdoors, the sun will help being outdoors feel slightly warmer than the actual temperatures. However, if you’re in a shaded area, it will definitely feel much cooler. So, for outdoor events, make sure you have a jacket handy, especially at night when the sun is of no help.
